Electronic Navigation

This course is designed to give a better understanding of GPS and chart plotters and their intelligent use at sea.  The dangers and drawbacks  in their use are recognised and highlighted. 

The course covers how GPS works, its accuracy, datums, differential GPS, waypoints, routes, COG, SOG, BRG, XTE, ETA, TTG, WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS and the different systems. Students will look at the PC programs available as well as hardware.  lncluded is a practical session on a PC ­based plotter..
